The Curb and Sidewalk Installation Proces
A quality sidewalk or curb installation follows a clear sequence. First, existing sections are saw-cut and removed and all material is hauled away. The subgrade is then graded, compacted, and corrected for drainage before forms are set to establish grade, width, and cross-slope. Concrete is placed at the appropriate strength rating — typically 4,000 PSI for residential and commercial sidewalks — followed by broomed or tined surface finishing for traction. Control joints are tooled or saw-cut at appropriate intervals, and curing compound or moisture retention methods are applied to the finished slab.
Summer conditions are ideal for this work: warm temperatures support proper curing, and dry conditions keep the subbase stable during installation.
